Living in Okotoks.

Okotoks sits in Foothills County, south of Calgary. Highway 2A (the continuation of Macleod Trail) and the Queen Elizabeth II Highway both lead north into the city; the south Calgary hospital, Seton and the Somerset. Bridlewood LRT station are roughly 20 minutes away. Okotoks Transit provides on-demand local service within town. Like the other communities around Calgary, most residents commute by car.

The Sheep River divides the town. North of the river are the historic core (Olde Towne Okotoks, along Elma and McRae Streets), Suntree, Tower Hill and Sheep River Ridge. South of the river and up the slope: Cimarron, Drake Landing, Westmount, Wedderburn, Mountainview, Woodhaven and Downey Ridge. Crystal Shores is built around a private lake with a beach and lake house for residents; Air Ranch is a residential airpark with a private runway; D'Arcy Ranch surrounds a golf course on the northwest edge of town.

The Sheep River pathway system links parks along the valley. Seaman Stadium hosts the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Canadian Baseball League through the summer. The Okotoks Recreation Centre and Pason Centennial Arenas provide pools, arenas and fitness space. The Okotoks Erratic, a glacial boulder and provincial historic site known locally as Big Rock, is a few minutes west on Highway 7. Olde Towne Okotoks holds independent shops and cafés; larger retail is along Southridge Drive and near Highway 2A.

Public schools are operated by Foothills School Division, including Foothills Composite High School. Catholic schools are operated by Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools, including Holy Trinity Academy. Confirm designated schools and available programs for a specific address with the division directly.

Okotoks has grown in phases, so buyers find early-1900s homes near the historic core, 1970s, 1990s neighbourhoods north of the river, and homes built since 2000 across the south side. Detached homes predominate; townhomes and some apartment condos are found in Cimarron, Drake Landing and near the town centre.
