Symons Valley Road connects south to Stoney Trail and Beddington Trail; Stoney Trail gives access across the north of the city and to Deerfoot Trail for downtown. Calgary Transit bus routes along Symons Valley Road connect to the North Pointe transit hub and the bus rapid transit corridor into downtown.
The West Nose Creek ravine forms the community's western and northern edge, with regional pathways following the creek. Within the community, a central pond and green corridors link a series of playgrounds and playing fields. There is no mandatory residents' association in Evanston; community programming is run by a volunteer community association.
Evanston Towne Centre, on Symons Valley Road, has a grocery store, pharmacy and everyday services. The larger Creekside and Sage Hill Crossing shopping districts, with big-box retail, restaurants and a second grocery cluster, are a few minutes south at Symons Valley Road and Stoney Trail. The Vivo for Healthier Generations recreation centre is in nearby Country Hills Village.
The Calgary Board of Education operates Kenneth D. Taylor School (elementary) in Evanston; the Calgary Catholic School District operates Our Lady of Grace School. Middle and high school designations are to schools in the wider north and change as the area's new schools open, confirm the designated school for a specific address with the board.
Evanston is predominantly detached homes built between about 2006 and 2020, including laned homes with detached garages, front-attached-garage homes on wider lots, and a section of larger homes along the ravine edge.
