Living in West Springs.

West Springs occupies the ground between Bow Trail on the south and Old Banff Coach Road on the north, with 69 Street SW on its east side and the Springbank acreages beyond its western edge. Bow Trail runs straight east to downtown, about 13 km and 15 to 20 minutes outside rush hour. The Trans-Canada Highway is a few minutes north past Canada Olympic Park, and Stoney Trail is to the west. The nearest LRT is the 69 Street station on the Blue Line, south of 17 Avenue; Calgary Transit route 51 links West Springs to it.

The 85 Street corridor between Bow Trail and 9 Avenue SW is the community's commercial spine. Two grocery stores, Calgary Co-op and No Frills, face each other across the street, with a Shoppers Drug Mart, banks, fitness studios, medical offices, cafes and restaurants in the West Springs Village, West Springs Landing and West 85th centres. Aspen Landing, south across 17 Avenue, adds a Sunterra Market and further dining.

The Calgary Board of Education opened West Springs School (K-4) in September 2010 and West Ridge School (grades 5 to 9) in January 2017, the latter serving both West Springs and Cougar Ridge. High school students are designated to Ernest Manning High School in Springbank Hill. The Calgary Catholic School District's St. Joan of Arc School (K-9) is on Wentworth Drive SW. Independent schools nearby include Rundle College, Webber Academy, Calgary Academy and the Calgary Waldorf School. Confirm the designated school for a specific address with the board.

Canada Olympic Park, operated by WinSport, is directly north of the community across Old Banff Coach Road: skiing, snowboarding and tubing in winter; mountain biking, the skyline luge and a summer camp program in warmer months, plus year-round arenas. The community's own parks are connected by pathways, and Edworthy Park on the Bow River is a short drive east.

West Springs was built mainly in the 2000s as a detached-home community, with laned and front-garage two-storey homes on crescents and cul-de-sacs off 85 Street and 73 Street. The Wentworth section west of 85 Street and the West Grove Estates phases are newer, into the 2010s and 2020s. Townhomes and apartment condominiums cluster along 85 Street, with newer mid-rise buildings around Broadcast Avenue; these are a different market from the detached streets and are best compared separately.
